Independence Day 2013
Tuesday, 17 Sep 2013 12:57
"Long years ago we made a tryst with destiny, and now the time comes when we will redeem our pledge, not wholly or in full measure, but very substantially. At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom. A moment comes, which comes but rarely in history, when we step out from the old to the new, when an age ends and when the soul of a nation, long suppressed, finds utterance.... We end today a period of ill fortune, and India discovers herself again." - Jawaharlal Nehru (Extract from his speech on Independence Day, 1947)

At the stroke of midnight on the 15th of August  1947, India shook off the shackles of British rule and became free. It is the duty of every Indian to commemorate this great day when India attained freedom.

At IPEM International School, Independence day as usual was celebrated with great gusto and enthusiasm. Like every year the students put up a colorful and patriotic variety entertainment programme on Independence Day.

This year, the Independence Day celebrations started with the unfurling of the National Flag and the singing of the National Anthem. After this the College Captain gave an inspiring speech to the students about the role of every student in building the nation. This was followed by the school choir presenting various patriotic songs. There were also several skits presented by the students on various important landmarks in our national struggle for freedom. The students also danced to various modern patriotic bollywood movie themes like ‘I love my India’ etc.  The highlight of the show was a tribute paid to the martyrs of the revolt of 1857 who died for the noble cause of making our country free and a better place to live in. The programme was concluded with a vote of thanks by our Vice Principal, Mrs. U. Eusebius after which packets of sweets were distributed to all the children.
