Birthdays Today

Independence Day
Tuesday, 17 Sep 2013 14:23
August 15, 2009, marked India’s 63rd Independence Day. On this day, the IPEM International School joined in the nationwide celebrations to commemorate 62 years of our independence and to honour the leaders, freedom-fighters, and patriots who worked tirelessly so as to be able to grant us the gift of a free India.
In his famous speech, titled “A Tryst with Destiny,” Jawaharlal Nehru stated as follows:

At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom. A moment comes, which comes but rarely in history, when we step out from the old to the new, when an age ends, and when the soul of a nation, long suppressed, finds utterance… We end today a period of ill fortune, and India discovers herself again.

Sixty two years later, in his address to the nation on August 15, 2009, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh stated the following:

Today is most certainly a day of happiness and pride for us. We are proud of our freedom. We are proud of our democracy. We are proud of our values and ideals… Today, we remember all those martyrs who laid down their lives for the freedom and security of our country. The best way of paying homage to those brave sons of our country will be to resolve today that we will always stay committed to strengthening the unity and integrity of our nation. Let us all together take a vow that we will spare no effort to take India to greater heights.

Today, as I stand before you I can feel the energy of more than 100 crore Indians marching ahead on the path of progress… We are rapidly moving forward. We have faith in ourselves. We have political stability. Our democracy is an example for the whole world. We are gaining in economic strength. And most importantly, we have full confidence in our youth. They are our future. I am sure that they will take our country to a new glory.

In the last 62 years, India has witnessed development, growth, and prosperity. Much has been accomplished, but much more still needs to be done.

In an effort to remind our students of the sacrifices made by the leaders of yesteryears and the challenges still to be faced, the IPEM International School celebrated Independence Day. The National Flag was hoisted by Dr. S.D. Liddle, Director and Principal, following which the National Anthem was sung. The students organized a variety of entertainment programs, among which a skit entitled “Hum Ek Hai” and the performance of the song “Choro Kal Ki Baatein” were the highlights. The program also included many patriotic dances and speeches. The celebrations ended with the vote of thanks being given by Mrs. S. Liddle, our Vice Principal. Later, the school hosted a lunch for the staff and management.
